Doc Murray, leaving a friend in charge of his operations in Lanark, has arrived in Juarez.
Being agringo, he stuck out, but not as much as he'd feared initially. There were plenty of bad white men here.
He found himself a room in a saloon, and spent his time in a cat house, or at the bar. He questioned the women whose business he employed and some 'ard looking chaps, wanting to know who sold the leaves of the coca plant here.

After a few days, someone confessed to be aware that David Alvaro occasionally invested in coca. He was a powerful man, powerful enough that the Mayor dared not touch him, and his business exploits were generally celebrated by the less than honorable residents of the City.
A little more digging and it was revealed that Alvaro can be found in his Gambling House, El Refugio de Bandidos, on most evenings.

Doc Murray wshed, shaved, and donned his best suit (which wasn't saying that much, but would at least look presentable) and made for the El Refugio the following evening.
He didn't see anyone at the door, or didn't notice anyone at any rate. At the bar, he asked for Alvaro.

The man whispered a few words in Spanish to a smaller gentleman, they seemed to have a short argument. However, the smaller man asked Doc Murray to come with him into the back room, where Alvaro was running a high stakes game of poker.

Doc Murray would wait until the game was over, rather than interrupt. He knew he hadn't the money or wit to join in.
Once the game came to an end, he introduced himself, and stated his purpose. He would like to import coca leaves into the US via his den in (The other Mexican town whose name eludes me, but which Doc Murray will soon build a den in. I'm on mobile, or I'd have just opened another tab).

'Ah Puerto Palomas.' Alvaro replied. 'I'm sure I can arrange to increase shipments to cover your business. However, you must do something for me first. There is a man there in Peurto Palomas. A gringo, by the name of Stanley Howard. He owes me some money, and I need that money. You can take my associate with you, his name is not your concern, but I can tell you he is a skilled fighter, both with a knife and with his fists.' Alvaro gestured towards the smaller gentleman who had shown Doc Murray into the backroom. 'I don't care how you get the money, just that you get it. If he doesn't have it, then you must bring him to me - alive, dead, doesn't matter. You do this, then I'll offer you a deal on the coca.'

"This, I can do," Doc Murray replied. "Very well, I'll send news, along with the cash, or Howard. A pleasure, sir."
With that, he exchanges a handshake, and departs.
