Background: Hector Robert Irons was born in July 1825 Robert had a quiet and gentle childhood. His family were reasonably wealthy and lived on the outskirts of Clarcksburg Virginia. Robert enjoyed his studies and was particularly interested in literature and the histories of was a conflict in Europe. A centre point of young Roberts life was the Church, which Robert and his family attended several times a week. It was at church that Robert met a young boy of similair age, who would come to fame as the Confederate General Stonewall Jackson.
Robert and Jackson were close friends they played, learned and eventually served in the Army together. Robert saw his first fighting in the Mexican war where he made a name for himself as a fearless leader with a near psychotic fondness of close quarters combat. It was in Mexico that he earned the moniker Red Rob. After Mexico Rob left the Army and set himself up on a small farmstead in the Virginian countryside with his new wife, a Mexican woman named Elena.
When the Civil War broke out Robert left to join the Army of Virginia and served as an infantry commander under Jackson, eventually being promoted to Colonel. After the wars end Robert returned to his small home and his wife. He suffered from acute survivors guilt which sat paradoxically alongside his inability to enjoy quiet civilian life. Helena died three months after Roberts conclusion, the grieving Robert sold his land and travelled to Mexico where he worked as a gun for hire and met his two companions. Little is known of his exploits there other than his reputation as a man who knew his way around a knife.
Robert made his way to El Paso and signed on as a US Marshall, he was shocked at the lawlessness and cruelty of the Wild West and felt that he could not sit idly by whilst the lords justice needed to be administered.
