El Paso, after the devastation caused by the assault, fell into disrepair. Columbus and Puerto Palomas grew into the principal border crossing between the U.S. and Mexico.
After a federal investigation, files uncovered in William de la Vue's offices revealed some startling truths. Whilst many thought his slave-owning days were over, it appeared he was abusing his position to imprison blacks, Chinamen, even Irish men, and before selling a writ of ownership over them to the Deming Rail Company. Deming was later arrested and lived out his days in a federal prison, disgraced and destitute.
F.M. Miller eventually summoned up the nerve and travelled to Stein's pass to return the locket Sam had given her as he died. When she got there however, rifled by tragedy, Sam's family had left, heading East. Miller took over the Stein's Pass border office and was later appointed Sheriff of Grant County, the first woman in the U.S to undertake the role.
With the fall of El Paso, the Apache tribes were evermore resolute in their raids and attacks on settlers. Eventually, Geronimo was captured by the U.S army and forced to relive his capture in front of live audiences across America. Nana, continued the fight until dying of natural causes at the age of ninety-six. Cautious Horse lived to a great old age, eventually being appointed leader of the Apache tribes. His struggles could not prevent the ever greater encroachment on Apache lands, and he was eventually forced to live out his days on an Indian reservation in Otero County.
Doctor Murray's ventures continued, he built a rail station in Lanark, and was elected Mayor. He continued to disappear on unusual ventures, returning with lost treasures and relics from bygone civilisations. Though his Lanarkola plant continued to run well into the 20th Century, he never recovered from losing his friend Professor Sanderson Reed, and eventually disappeared into obscurity. With stories of his endeavours becoming the centre of a legend he might have once attempted to unravel, he was portrayed in various Hollywood films telling the tale of his alleged involvement in the showdown at El Paso, the alleged reanimation of Freddy and Elijah and his search for lost treasure. He is often believed to have inspired both the Indiana Jones films and the Tomb Raider video game series, whilst simultaneously becoming revered as the quintessential American.
Red Rob passed into folk history as a legend. A scorned lawman driven insane by the deaths of his companions, stories of his life and death are enjoyed by children all across America - though devoid of much of the brutality which had enthralled his existence. In the late twentieth century, a skeleton was found outside El Paso. Unsubstantiated rumours had circulated that Rob had been buried by a young woman from Juarez outside the ghost town of El Paso, but no one had truly believed them. In the grave was a silver badge with the engraving 'Robert Irons, Deputy U.S. Marshall.'
