Robert and his two companions arrive in Hachita late in the day. They find themselves a place to sleep and see to the horses. Whilst the Little Man and the Giant sort out food and water Robert walks off to find the head of the towns council.

After talking with a few of the works overseers, Red Rob quickly learns that the Town council isn't much of a council, or even a committee, but a few men advising the otherwise all powerful James Small. Small, head of the Hachita Mining Company, is a difficult man to meet with due to his own massively exaggerated busy schedule.
After some persuasion, he agrees to a five minute sit down with Robert.

Robert is somewhat amused by the self important nature of Mr Small, but nonetheless plays his part.
"Mr Small, a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for making time in your schedule to meet me. I doubt you have heard of me, but I imagine you have heard of the organisation I work for." Bill opens his coat to show a gleaming US Marshals badge pinned to the inside "Now, myself and my two compatriots are here in your delightful little village seeking information regarding an individual by the name of Juan Alvarid. Any information you might have in regard to his whereabouts will be greatly appreciated and rewarded, however if you conceal from myself, or withhold any information, no matter how small it may be I will be forced by the law to consider you an accomplice of Mr Alvarid or any other criminals you may know of." Robert leaned forwards in his chair and fixed Small with his slightly unhinged gaze. "Now, how may we help each other?"

The impatience of Mr. Small eroded after such revelations, he was clearly a man who believed self-preservation was the greatest virtue.
'Call me Jimmy, Mr... um... what was your name again? Never mind, I can assure you that Mr. Alvarid has never set foot in Hachita, of course I have heard of him and his crimes and if he were located anywhere near my town - err... this town - then we would have had him lynched already... well, that is to say... err... I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot here. Let me pour you a drink.' Jimmy Small didn't wait for a response before emptying a large serving a Bourbon into a glass and shoving it in front of Rob.'Those lower than low vagabonds tend to rest in the desert, near the border. I hate to tell you how to do your job, but perhaps someone in Columbus knows more.'

Robert placed the glass on a table "Well in that case, what can you tell me about Fat Bill? I know he has been causing your firm a good deal of trouble and I am interested in bringing him in. I need to know who his frontman in the town is, how many men he has with him and where he is hiding."

'Well, I don't know where he's been hiding. Otherwise we'd have... erm...' Jimmy stopped short... 'Ya know, we don't tolerate lynchings in this here town. Nevertheless, I'm certain he's been using one of those new-fangled unions to place pressure on the labourers. Now we don't tolerate that kind of activity, so the union has been driven underground, if you excuse the pun. Either way, I suspect one of their leaders to be Kevin Malone. He's an idiot but clearly feeding much better than the other powder jugglers, so you may want to give him a visit.'

Robert sighs "Thank you Jimmy, you have been most helpful. I will return to town in a few days, you are to tell your fellows that I was searching for a Mexican man and asked no questions about Fat Bill."
Robert and his companions leave town swiftly and head for... Lanark.
