A stray rider, who claims to be from the Pony Express, has claimed that on his way to El Paso, there was a lone woman lost in the Mesilla Valley. He rode as hard as he could to El Paso to seek help. According to the rider her horse had been taken by bandits and she had been left to fend for herself against all the dangers of the West. The man said he helped her into a disused hunting cabin and rode to find rescuers.
According to the gentleman in question, she had managed to hide some money from her assailants, and had offered him $500 to let her ride with him. Unfortunately, his horse was old and two weak to carry two riders, so he took $100 in return for heading to El Paso.
